Maybe I am over-thinking this, but I had a question about adding dechlorinator (AmQuel+) to the new tap water that I add during a partial water change.
The directions call for a certain amount per 10g of water, but I am using a 3 gallon bucket for changes. I may use 3 buckets worth per change (9gallons). I have been dosing each bucket, letting it sit for 5 minutes, then adding to tank.
Do I really need to use a precise dose per each bucket?
Can I add the 10 gallons worth of AmQuel directly into tank before adding the new water and just assume it all evens out?
Is there any harm in adding a little more AmQuel than called for? (measuring isn't always precise)

You should treat the water before putting in your tank, don't treat the tank water then put fresh in...

Going a bit over the dosage of the dechlorinator will cause no harm, so should be fine if you do.

Also when treating the fresh water be sure to stir in evenly to ensure it mixes well.

Yes, you can go over, it won't hurt a thing. You can also add it to the tank first, then add the water. There's no reason to wait 5 minutes, dechlorinator works nearly instantly.

Many people filling tanks with a hose do just that, dose the tank first. Many people also use no dechlorinator at all for water changes of 25% or less. Due to the way my tanks are set up they get dechlorinator added after a 50% water change.

Just remember that if you're adding dechlor to the tank and then refilling, you sohuld use enough dechlor for the whole tank's volume, not just the new water.

When changing multiple tanks I have just squirted dechlor in as filling. I'm sure putting in more than needed but since I was going fast and time was of the essence, and as far as I know small overdoses of dechlor are harmless, I just went for it.

+1 for adding slightly more. a Rule of thumb is:
1 Litre of water = 1 kg of weight

1000ml = 1000grams

3 Gallons = 13.6 litres (13600 ml)

Your bucket holds 13600 grams. Use this to accurately figure out how much you need :good:
