Hi,

At the moment i am in the second day of a six day treatment for white spot. Im using warelife protozin . Im just wondering if i should still carry ouy water changes during the treatment. Correct me if im wrong but im thinking if i change the water id be diluting the medication. I d like to know if im right or not.

Cheers :good:

some medicine will tell you when to do a water change, read the package and see if it says anything. i know my melafix says, treat 7 days followed by water change. and then i have an ich medicine that says, dose wait 48, 25% water change.dose again

It doesnt say. The only thing it does say is in case of overdose do 25% change. So id of thought you would do this to dilute it. I think the best thing is to wait till after the treatment has ended then do a change.

Thanks roseK.

im also dosing protozin at the moment. Ive just done my 6th day dose and now wondering when to do a change also! Im due tomorrow but dont know whether to wait an extra day or two??? If you find out Rose let me know!

Germ informed me yesterday to always do an extra few days dosage more than stated on the bottle to make sure you really get all the white spot. Im gonna treat for an extra two days. at least one extra dose.

well for white spot, its good to dose for an extra week to make sure all the fishies are healthy. so i would do a change after the 6 days then dose for another week

Ah so ill do the change tomorrow then dose another week? Thats seems a bit excessive. Would just 2 more doses be ok after the change as gowing has just mentioned?

im not sure, i just know with white spot its good to dose for 10-14 days. if your fish look good, then only a couple days might only be needed

well the only signs of whitespot i had was on my loach. The spots have gone off him so ill dose for the 10 days then. Thanx :) sorry to hijack the thread

I am treating for white spot currently with Interpet No6 and it says to do 1 full treatment, ie dose on day 1 and day 4, but i am doing another full treatment just to be sure its all gone. I shall do a 25-30% water change on Tuesday and put carbon media in my filter if the fish sem ok and clean, if not, then i administer another full treatment. Seems to be working so far! GRJ

That is gonna be my plan of attack. Finish one dose (6 days) THen 25% water change an give them another 6 day dose to be sure its gone.

I was a bit dissapointed with the medication instructions though. All it came with was a brief description of doses etc. Id of thought they would give you a leaflet with a much more detailed description of the procedures and what exactly the stuff does. I felt a bit weary putting in all that blue stuff without really knowing what exactly i was doing to my fishies!!

I know what you mean! I got some on my cream carpet aarrrgg! Its pretty lethal stuff. I take out some tank water into a cup and mix the protozin in. Then i disperse it arond the tank. I have to halve the dose cus of my scaleless loaches

Most treatments are designed to be 7 day treatments, therefore i would say complete one full treatment (7 days) usually last dosing on day 6, then water change on day 8 once the treatment is complete.

If as stated, more treatment is required, start again after the water change. :good:
