I would like to warn all you guys out there of a wasted £10 of my hard earned cash.
I ordered plants from the web from www.java-plants.com & received my order from my postman & opened to find cuttings which were rotten & smelly. Not a root in sight just cuttings.
An e-mail of polite words explaining the situation has been ignored by said supplier.

Moral of this story maybe its best to stick with your local supplier rather than wasting money on rubbish on the web.

sh it happens

I get ALL my plants online these days and the choice is far better than most LFS can offer.
You just have to find a supplier who will give you good plants (that usually means Tropica plants) and offer excellent service.

For me there is really only one UK plant supplier where I know I won't get bad plants - www.aquaessentials.co.uk !
There are cheaper plants to be found if you search around .... but how cheap do they really work out if you end up throwing them in the bin !

Yesterday I took a delivery of a large order for my 220ltr tank from AquaEssentials. 32 pots of Tropica plants and every one was in great condition.

I,ve ordered from Java before a couple of times without a problem. Normally they are in good condition. Does not sound like them?
I guess you were unlucky...keep trying to get in touch, I am sure they will respond. :good:

I've ordered from greenline a number of times (even got a small order delivered today). Never had a problem. Most plants in LFS always seem a bit worse for wear, so Greenline represents good value to me.

I have had two orders off Greenline and been happy both times. I give them 7/10 (they lose points for the snails and Duckweed).

Ok,

Ive ordered plants from Java Plants, Aquatic Plants Online and Greenline.

Imo Greenline are by far the best quality and best variation of plants, followed by Java Plants then Aquatic Plants last.

Greenline plants were all wrapped in wet newspaper in plastic sealed packets, it came with a sheet explaining each plant and also an CD catalogue. I ordered the 40" set and they all arrived in excellent condition.

Java plants were very similar of quality although they seem to prefer the one plant to one vaccum sealed plastic bag. Over 90% of the plants were healthy and of a decent size. The onese that did suffer were the red plants which seemed to be worse for wear.

Aquatic Plants online were again not bad but seemed to suffer far more form their postage journey. The plants were again in vaccum sealed bags, although this time seemed over vaccumed and suffered because of it.

Green Line 9/10
Java 8/10
Aquatic Plants 6/10

I second that, www.aquaessentials.co.uk get 10/10 from me.
The only other online place I've tried is www.plantsalive.co.uk who get 5/10 - they have good customer support (they were very polite and replaced my plants), but the quality of the plants is a joke, and the packaging means that they don't really arrive 'alive' at all.

I've tried several on-line plant suppliers. Luck is certainly a factor.

If you want high quality guaranteed then Tropica pots from Aqua Essentials are unbeatable, except pots direct from Tropica themselves. :)

Aqua Essentials are the ultimate for top quality, but you can get some interesting and unusual plants at good prices from Greenline.

Both establishments give excellent customer service - I got a lot of good advice from Andy at Greenline. I did have a tiny bit of duckweed in one of his packages, but it was easy enough to rinse off in some old tank water, and there certainly wasn't much of it.

Again, that term "luck" raises it's ugly head, as this was one incident in over 10 orders from Greenline.

Aqua Essentials have that luxury feel to the plants but IMO Greenline still give value for money.

All the best from Bill.
