hi , i set up my new tank last night and i havegone for sand . I was really dubious about using itas i have read all the articles about washing it . What i did is i got about two mugs fullof sand in a clean tea towel and held in running water and squeezed all the water out and repeated until it ran clear . I washed enough to cover an inch on a 3 foot tank in half an hour so it was'nt that bad and when i putthe water in it was clear straight away and its crystal this morning so i'm really impressed with sand so far I'm waiting for some more plants and a background to be delivered . I'll put a pic on the tanks forum . :)

Congratulations! People make a big deal out of how much dust sand can make but with some diligence there is no reason it can't come clean. I had similar results but I put a small amounts in a bucket, swished it around with some water, and poured the water out. Did it for a while but it was worth it!
