I have some phosphate control. Its labeled Laguna Biological Ponnd Water treatment and says that it reduces phospate naturally. I used this stuff when i had fake plants so that algae wouldnt grow.

Now that I have real plant sis this stuff safe to use?

Thanks

No, phosphate is required by the plants. Contrary to what many people think, algae is not caused by phosphate and you will probably have more algae problems with really low phosphate than with slightly high levels, I know my algae has dissapeared and plants are growing like crazy since I upped my phosphate dosing. Read the link below, he speaks the truth!

Well where ever i look it says that.

"Phosphate Control naturally impedes algae growth when added to pond water. The micro-organisms in Phosphate Control’s super-concentrated formula compete with single-celled, suspended algae for vital nutrients. Without the essential building blocks of life, algae is naturally controlled and reduced “Algae bloom” is a common nuisance in pools and ponds. If untreated, it becomes dangerous by using valuable oxygen during the night.

Controls phosphate, a vital nutrient for algae.
Much safer than chemicals that can rob the pond of essential oxygen.
Beneficial to the entire pond ecosystem.
Improves water clarity.
"

Is that not true?

That is true. Without phophate, algae will die off. And so will your plants. Phosphate is required by algae to survive, but phosphate is not the root of algae problems. Algae is cause by ammonium and nutrient imbalances. When your plants have everything they need, they will outcompete algae.

sorry to hijack but howcome when i added 150ML of Rowaphos (phosphate remover) to my 40 Gallon the hair algae vanished in a week or so with nothing else changing.....

phosphate was at 6ppm now 0.15?????
