Currently I have a 10 gal tank, have had it for 6 months and have a mix of fish.
I am wanting to redo my tank completely in a few months and needed to make sure that my ideas are alright.
First my stock list will be:
3-5 Albino(or julii) cories (should I go with more in this size tank?)
2 Bettas
some ghost shrimp also (3-5?)

I know that 2 bettas is not recommended but I plan on adding a bunch of plants (probably fake silk plants) and a bunch of hidey holes that way they have somewhere to hide.
These extra plants and holes i am planning will be good for the cories that way they dont get a burn or anything too.
Also do you think that I should go with black or white sand? I have white gravel right now and I dont really like it.

not sure on everything else, but 2 bettas is a no no they will fight to the death, especially in a 10G tank. even big big tanks its not a good thing to do.

Agree with Rob, why try it if there is a 99.9% chance they will kill each other (even with lots of plants)

In a 10G tank you could have a nice sorority of 5 female :)

I was debating a sorority also, could I do them with the cories and shrimp?
I tried a sorority of 6 in a 10-gallon and all but two were torn to shreds. The girls were very badly injured and I didn't have a good back-up plan as to where to put them and so I had to take them back to the store that way :( I'd never do that again. Luckily I was able to keep two of them because I had a temp 2-gallon bowl I put her in. . .now, she's in a 3-gallon eclipse.

Okay, if i go with just one betta, cories, and shrimp, is there any other fish that one might recommend?

I think you'd be up to full stocking on a 10 gall with that anyway. Betta is 2", those albino cories get quite big, 2-3", so with only 4, you're full.

ah, yes. forgot the 'ole stocking rule. and if i plan on having lots of deco then that number goes down. (sorry, thinking out loud)
does shrimp factor into the stocking rule?
will bettas eat any small shrimp (ghost, cherry, ect), if they do can you recommend another type of crustacean that could possibly work?

yes, GG thats rare. There will initially be sggression but it wares off in time.

Amano shrimp are bigger and i bet they'd do ok w/a betta. And, personally, i'd go w/the black sand. I think it would show off the colors of your fish more, but it's entirely a personal choice.
