Im wanting to buy a new frog after what happened to my old one. Ive been reading up on them and it says that they will attack anything that moves in front of it. Im just wondering if thats true cause if it is Ill go and buy another dwarf frog. Also I want to know if thier noctenal or if they come out durning the day.

And any other advice you would like to give me I would greatly appriciate it! :good:

P.S I have a 20 gal high tank.

It is true, they do attack/jump at anything that moves (even your finger!) but it doesnt hurt one bit, my adf's come out mostly at day, and sometimes at night. If you have fast fish in your tank you will have to hand feed the frogs, as they are quite slow at getting food, thats one main cause of death. Also they mostly eat frozen/live foods such as bloodworms etc, i fed mine every other day.

i'm no expert on ACFs but I'm not sure how happy they'd be in a high tank because they are bottom dwellers, but have to reach the surface for air. It is true they'll attack anything they think will fit in their mouths, though, at least, it was with mine.

I think the tall tank would be a problem as starrynight pointed out. My frog goes up and down for air quite often. They are pretty much blind so when food goes into the water they swim around 'scooping' up bits of food that they can smell. My frog often tries to grab my parrott cichlid as it goes by, with smaller fish that would be a problem. The fish would end up swallowed whole or nipped at. And yes thay do occasionally get your fingers! :D

What are you looking for....african CLAWED frog or african DWARF frog.....my understanding is they are 2 different frogs, one gets huge and can be aggressive, the other is small and although yes, dwarves jump at most anything, they are too small to do any damage to my dwarfpuffer.

Hi
I have 3 ACFs and no other living thing inthe tank, it is true that they will attack just about anything which is why they are on their own, their tank is 12 inches high which is fine for them, they like to sit on the filter and poke their heads out of the water, I find the acfs very entertaining to watch especially at meal times, i dont want boring fish anymore after having these little critters. Mine are out and about any time of the day. They are all boys and are always giving each other hugs so I think they are abit confused about their sexuality.

dont feed live bloodworms to acf or dcf's there have been reports of worms eating their way OUT of the frogs. freeze dried or frozen work much better but make sure they are fed with a vareity of other foods.

acf's shouldnt really be kept with any other fish their needs are different both nutritionally and with water conditions. they have been known to eat other and all fish in a tank. also you have to beware of their strength. acf's are much stronger than just about anything else available for tanks make sure they can kick unglued rocks hard enough to smash tanks. the other problem is the water depth shouldn be too deep especially when the acf's are young no more than about 12-15" deep for adult frogs. your best bet would probably be to stick with the dwarf species but most fish find their limbs irresistable?!?

hope any of this helps:)

bluesmartie-I have successfully kept my ACF with fish for two years. How are their feeding and water requirements different to fish? And i have yet to hear of live bloodworm eating their way out of a frog , do you have the report so i can read it? I think i would find it very interesting!
Tbagger-i think that ADF are more suited to your tank and inhabitants, maybe go for the biggest one so that there is less chance of its limbs being eaten? :dunno:

Thanks all for the advice, Ive decided to buy another dwarf frog since I have 2 kuli Loaches in my tank and Im afraid of them getting eatin by the ACF.

So do all fish find thier limbs yummy or just the aggressive ones?

Oh yea ACF would definately eat a khuli! Not sure about the limbs tbh but i have witnessed a Firemouth eat a ACF whole!

how big was the acf that was eaten by a firemouth mine was the one that did all the eating lol. kept him in a tank that was 18inches deep with no problems.

good choice going with the adf though

:good:
