I have a (mostly) livebearer 10 gallon, that has been set up for a good 2 years now. It is currently home to a BEAUTIFUL Pinapple Swordtail male (he's my favorite fish  ), two guppies (both males), and 1 glolight tetra (he killed all the other tetras...and hangs out with the two guppies).

I was wondering what would be a good fish to add to the mix. It is a beautiful tropical themed tank, so a brightly colored fish would be ideal. But the most important thing is that it/ they will be ok with my livebearers.

Thanks!! :D

There are other livebearers that would fit right in, like Platies or Mollies. Although salt may reduce the stress for Mollies, it's not necessary. Mollies come in quite a variety of colors that can be quite bright.

If it's a 10g, I honestly wouldn't add too much more in. The Swordtail would ideally be better off in a bigger tank, as they can get quite big, but as for this tank...maybe some small Tetras/Rasboras? I wouldn't go for anything big, or big numbers of anything. You can try browsing through our Characin Index, and see if anything pops out at you. :)

no dont get a molly as they prefere a larger tank with an addition of salt. i would add some platies because their variety of coloration is endless....if it was my tank i would add about 3 sunset or red wagtail platies. but remember to keep 1 male to 2 females.

why not just morw guppies or endlers, i personally think swordtails arent suitable for 10g as they grow bigger then the other livebearers and prefer a bigger tank of 15-20g. mollies prefer salt in the water, but have been kept in freshwater for years, as long as the water is clean, there shouldnt be a problem. i would stick with the normal mollies or ballon mollies. sail fins tent to get bigger. and platies are also ok. many color variations and lots to chose from. but being a 10g with 5 fish, i wouldnt say its over stocked, but getting there. my suggestion would be 2 more guppies OR 2 platies OR 2 mollies. to me that would stock the tank.
