I would like to see your pics of your angels and would like your personal experience with them when they paired up and spawned also did you have to remove the angels that paired up during breeding because of aggression and if you left the breeding pair in the tank how aggressive were they to the other tank mates and angels? Also tell me the tank size they are in and if you have more than 2 in there and did you return the other angels once a pair was formed.

Sorry for all the questions and request but I want all the personal experience I can get from you angel owners. :D

here are my little angles .the experince piece " dont keep them with big time nippers and spawning stuff keep alot of flat objects for there eggs .

Well the only flat stuff I have in the tank is the filter intake tube, the heater is somewhat flat, the tank walls, the gravel, and the somewhat flat thermometer.

(About twice that big now, but no current pictures)

My experience with them breeding: Very aggressive to other tankmates. No fish could get close to one half of that tank for a few days. They always ate the eggs, so it wasn't a huge problem...but they did get aggressive. They are in a 40g, no other Angels, never were other Angels. I guess I just got lucky getting a pair. :X

you could use rocks, driftwood/bogwood, amozon sword plants those would work for the flat stuff

If I posted all the pics of my angels, there would be 100 of them, let me look through my pics for some breeding in action pics or something like that. Experience with them pairing & spawning, and having to switch fish would be a small book, I call it my fishroom log.

If you have a filter intake, they will spawn on that. Even if you have plenty of suitable pieces of slate, pvc pipe, or plants, they somehow seem to know that the intake can't be removed. It's happened to me countless times, as well as other angel breeders I know.

There are a few things you can do to get this started off right. Get quality fish, preferably from a breeder, or from a non-corporate owned lfs that deals with local breeders. You get what you pay for.

Quality food is a must, I use Omega 1 flakes, and Haikari frozen brine shrimp, and occasionally bloodworms. Too much bloodworms tends to lead to constipation & bloat, they only get them around once a month. A variety is best, as is frequent smaller feedings as opposed to one large one daily.

Water changes & more water changes, angels love fresh water. Treat them like discus in regards to water quality, and they do incredibly well, growing thick & healthy.

Depending on the age of the fish when you get them, it will take from 3 to 6 months before you see any pairing behavior. Worry about growing healthy angels first, once they start to pair off, deal with that.

My angels breed every 2-3 weeks and eat the eggs every time. The male beats the female up terribly. I'm going to trade them in for something else soon I think, I hate the aggression during breeding and it seems like they're bredding ALL the time.

Two of my angels paired up a good few months ago and have spawned a few times, they chse the other fish if they get to close to the eggs (which they always lay on the filter stack of my rio 300) but they dont actually hurt any of my other fish.

When they first paired up we began plans to set up a seperate breeding tank in our spare room for them so that the other fish werent getting stressed (and all forced to live in one half of the tank while they guard the eggs) but since we found out wy wife is pregnant we cant fill the spare room with tanks now so I have just left them in.

I did put the male in the tank with my diamond tetras but the female just spawned with another male a month ago so I just put the original male back in(and the original 2 are 'back together')

Until we get something sorted out Im just going to let them keep spawning but the eggs are usually eaten within 3 days because they feel too threatened with the other fish in there and things are calm again for a month or so at least.

heres some pictures of them...

I read that Angels prefer taller tanks due to a preference to swim up n down as opposed to round n round. is that true? Cos Im looking to getting a 18"x12" "hexagonal" tank that is 24" (might up this to 30") tall for a corner unit and thought that a few angels would love this?

They NEED a taller tank because they are tall fish, my adults measure 7-8" in height, a tank 24" high is ideal for angels but if the other dimensions are 18 x 12" Id say it was maybe too small......Im trying to picture the tank as I dont have a hex tank but others may disagree with me. They are great fish to keep though.

that would explain it.

The tank would be rather small on the surface area, esp in comparison to laying it out horizontal. The main reason it would be sparsely populated, though I now get concerned about the size of the angel, thinking i may very well need to review it.

meet jemima, my single angelfish. he/she?? lives alone because he/she kills any other angel that attempts to enter the tank.

2 down so far so i've given up, great personality if i squidge my nose right on the glass she will swim right up and sit 2cm infront of my eyes. pretty cool.

oh and the black bands go from totally transparent to jet black depending on the mood. thats cool as well

Ive always found that with angels and discus that they watch you just as much as you watch them, when my cat Noah goes up to watch them they all flock around him to see what is going on.

They arent in this picture though but its hard to get a photo of it since he usually puts a paw gently on the glass and they scarper!

what pics of my fish I have are all over the place, I maybe able to post some later but not at the moment (besides I'm generally crappy at fish pics) - some of my tales or fish info though

1-Serial Killer, he was a gold we had who really earned his name, killed an adult angel more than twice his size not long after we got him, also killed many other fish including 4 angels his size (when we got him) plus some other assorted fish (ie cant remember)

2 Our only adult pair currently - 2 gold pearlscales, silly enough to choose to spawn (first time) right above a pair of spawned convicts, had to remove their eggs for their own saftey as they were getting pretty torn up, havnt spawned since, but I think thats due to a lack of any other suitable place than above the convicts usual haunt and a large blue dolphin (c.moorii) that was terrorizing the tank (had to finally remove it a few days ago)

Otherwise I have a near adult black lace and 2 juvie smokey blues.

Ok took a quick shot of my black lace, as a I said I'm a cruddy fish photographer most of the time :D
