Repost as i posted this i think in the wrong place

Hi All,

Wanted some fishies for ages and specifically wanted a BiOrb 60l. I will be honest and say my reasons for wanting were they looked simple, had everything built in meaning no choices to make on filters etc. Size was a factor also being that i have a nero 4 guinea pig cage taking up my entire dining room table (i have no dining room just a big living room).

I have since read these forums and i am so confused, people stating biorbs are awful, filters dont need changing when biorb say. fishless cycling which again biorb dont mention. I mean no offence to anyone on here when i say that as a newbie i dont know who to believe. Now of course as an animal lover and forum follower i know noone here would intentionally give bad advice but how could a company like reef one give bad advice like putting fish in 24 hr after set up. Even i think thats stupid!

Anyways needed to get that off my chest. So since i am getting about 200-300 quid for xmas to play with and i am allowed by all parties involved to get in november to allow cycling what is a good noob tank. I at the moment only want silver tip tetras.

Thanks in advance
Sarah

You, could look on ebay, for those plug in and play type tanks!
You would also save alot of money, looking on ebay for 2nd hand tanks, as they usually come with filter, heater etc!

As long as you realize the limitations of those tanks, size, surface area, filtration, and stock accordingly you should have no problem. Sadly, the main goal of these corporations is to make a profit, ahead of animal welfare. Members posting here don't make any profit. Our main concern is the welfare of the fish, and promoting the hobby.

If you change media as often as they say they have a return customer, good for business. If you buy fish straight off, and lose some, once again you are a return customer. Business ethics & animal welfare often do not coincide.

Whichever tank you choose, go with a fishless cycle if at all possible, change filter media only when it is plugged beyond use or falling apart, and ask here for stocking information. If you decide not to go with a plug & play setup there is plenty of good information given by reliable members about gear here. When it comes to gear, your best products are pretty much neck & neck, and much choice has to do with personal preference in part due to familiarity.

BTW, welcome to TFF!
