Hello everyone,
I'm apparently a new member here at this forum so bare with me if this question is rediculous - first of all, the title of this question maybe a bit deceiving....it's not a complaint on fish from Walmart - I was just wondering if anyone here knows if Walmart allows you to bring in fish for store credit or for trade in? the two goldfish I have are in too small of a tank ( I didn't realize this until after I had them for about a month) well i don't have the funds to buy another tank, nor do I have the room - I just about had to get rid of my couch to get my 55g fw - if it matters, I've had the two gold fish for about 5 mos now and I'd prefer to get rid of them asap.

I have one black moor in a 5g and a lionhead goldfish? in a 5g. and would like to see them in a bigger home before they start 'stunting' which is why I ask this question.
It maybe a stupid question but you gotta start somewhere right?

Thanks in advance for any answers :good:

I'm not familiar with Walmart's trade-in policy for fish, but have you looked for other fish or pet stores in your area? I'd talk to them first, especially if you can find a good local fish store, they'll be more likely to find good homes for your goldfish than Walmart. You may even be able to find a pond shop that deals with goldfish, where I used to live there was a lovely shop focusing on koi but they also had fancy goldfish. I'm sure you can probably call any store up (even Walmart if that's your only option) to find out.

Nice to see someone trying to find a proper home for their goldfish rather than the usual "It's been fine for a month, they don't need a bigger tank!" :good:

Thanks Tessla,

It just shows how dependent a person can be on using the net as an answer vs. just picking up the phone...The closest town(with pet stores) from me is about 80 miles away, which has four pet stores including wal-mart. the odd thing is that - my favorite pet store doesn't sell goldfish, just fw & sw fish - and the remaining three(wal-mart included) stores' goldfish tanks are overstocked - actually, out of the remaining three, wal-marts big goldfish tank is the least overstocked. I've read a lot of horror stories about fish from walmart, BUT the guy at this one, is extremely knowledgeable about the fish * maintenance they keep their and mainly that's the only reason I go there. I have a friend that lives about 20 miles from me, who runs an outdoor pond w/ comets in the summer - would my two fish be okay w/ comets or are they too slow of swimmers to hang out with comets? he generally has 5-8 comets in a 200-350g? pond if that matters......

Thanks again

I wouldn't keep fancies in a pond since they are too slow to swim away from predators, the comets would probably outcompete them for food too. If nothing else works out the pond would be better than nothing though, moors and lionsheads can probably compete the best out of the fancies. Shame you're so far from a fish store but if your Walmart has a good fish guy it sounds like that's your best option.

Since you're in the US, you might also try putting up an ad on Craigslist if nothing else works, most people won't keep big tanks for fancy goldfish but you might get lucky. Good luck with your fish!

We gave my mom a Fantail Goldfish for her pond about 4 years ago, and the guy is still happily alive and well! They leave him in there over the winter too ;) A bunch of the other fish in the pond had gotten eaten by a Racoon, but our guy is still going strong.

you can post the guys in the buy sell and swap section on here. Also try aquabid.com and craigslist as mentioned above.
