I know that veil teils are considered the "basic" type of betta. I never got that as they are my favorite. I love the look of their fins as compared to HM's, CT's, Deltas, etc. I'm guessing its because VT's are the majority that are sold at LFS and chain stores? When they have healthy fins, man are they pretty. Even when they aren't flaring

Anyone else prefer VT's?

I think they are pretty and I find them to be much hardier then the other types. but I breed and I don't breed them because they are very hard to sell due to the easy availability in every lfs.

I've only had 2 betta's, but they were both veil tails. I think they're adorable, and probably my most favorite betta type, although for my next betta I want to get a CT I think... haha, unless I fall in love with another VT!

vts and pks are my fav though i am star6ting to like cts
i just bred from my pet shop vt
i dont think there is anything wrong with breeding from them aslong as you know they will have good offspring adn that they will all find (good) homes.
although i wouldnt breed from a standard red or blue vt as they are too common already

I must admit i find VTs boring, mainly because all i ever seem to find is red or blue ones. However i do own 3 VTs, all of which have fantastic personalities. I would love to get cts and a SD for my new tank though if i find that perfect one!

i have a blue one - they have a lovely pink one in the lfs near me - but have just ordered a bright red one!

also have a multicoloured fishie - whos lovely :)

I like VT's just fine - don't happen to have any, but I think they are nice looking fish.

My daughter--in-law has the most beautiful (IMO) vt she purchased last summer from Wal-Mart. He is a teal color with a burgundy wash on his fins. He is small, but absolutely perfect.

When I first saw him at her house he was living in a little bowl without any heat or anything - and VERY lethargic - so much so that people often thought he was dead! She had him housed like that because they told her she could and she didn't know any better. Well, along came "Mom" to the rescue - LOL!

I had a 4 gal. tank I wasn't doing anything with at the time, so I gave it to her. Along with a heater, a Whisper In-Tank Micro filter, some gravel, a couple of silk plants, some good quality food and a hunk of hornwort. And, of course, a syphon for tank cleaning and explained the importance of keeping his water clean (which, thankfully, she does).

She is now absolutely AMAZED at how active he is & the next time I was over there, he had a nice bubble nest going.

if you can find homes for them thats great. Id breed every tail type there is if I could find homes for them localy.

I have a male VT. I got him because I loved his purpley colour :) If I got another I'd maybe go for a HM or a different tail type, but really it's down to the colour. Purple is my favourite colour so that's why I got Burb (Sherbert  )

My first betta was a VT called Ramjet and he is the most sparkly lively fish i have ever had. I love him. He is rad and turns a bright purple red when he flares. I agree it seems to be all that i find in lfs but ive come across some gorgeous ones. Pinky (RIP) was adorable but he died :( I have PK and VT and really want a CT and HM but have to wait for that...

Some VTs in lfs look so ratty and not looked after i feel like saving them all. I just wish i had enough room in my tanks for all of them.
