Volts to watts?

I don't believe they are compatible that way, and that they're two completely different things, although I'm not realy sure. What is it that your talking about that needs you to convert these?
 
well on my lights on my tanks it wont tell me how many watts it has but it shows my volts. my lights are 125 volts and i dont know how many watts that is.

well, according to Mrbones Formula, you would also need to know how many amps the light required. :)
 
Are they Florescent tubes or regular incandescent lights? Aquarium lights (Florescent lights) usually have a fairly low wattage (my ten gallon tank has a 15w tube) although I guess for deeper tanks you would use a 60-70 watt bulb. Do you want to know the wattage so you can replace the tube? if so, just post what kind of tank you have and I'm sure someone can tell you what kind of light to buy :) .
 
i have a new 30g tall marine tank im planing on setting up over the next month and i hear i need atleast 300watts for plant / creature things for the live rock.
 
The volts is telling you that it's a mains powered light, it has nothing at all to do with light output.

You cannot work out the light's wattage output using the voltage input.

Most tank lights are 30 or 60 watts.
 
Volts is a measure of potential difference (think of it as the force causing the electric current to flow) while watts is a measure of power (power being the rate at which energy is used to do work).

As has been said in your situation you cant find out the watts of the light unless you also know how many amps are delivered to the actual light (not just the starter).

i figured that out already but i need to find some bulbs for my new 29g marine tank im going to start setting up soon.
