Hi guys, I was just wondering if it is essential to have to water filled right up to the water line? I was told today it was but I'm not quite sure why it would be unless you were going add any treatments to the water or anything like that. I really do not like the look of the visible water line but I cannot raise it anymore as the filter will be too far under the water to work, I really do not want to buy a new filter just for this as its working perfectly. Any ideas what I can do?

You don't have to raise it to the top if you don't want. I raise mine close to the top so I can't see the water line because I like the look. Some animals need it below the top actually so they can't escape or need to breathe air.

I am currently treating my fish tank for white spot at the minute and some of the fish are coming up for more air so I think it may actually be better for it to be lower but when the are finished being treated I would like to raise it so its not visible but the problem is the filter will be under the water so I can't, could I put some black tape around the top of the tank or would it be dangerous?

Why wouldn't your filter work if the water was higher? Filter pumps work underwater.

This is going to sound so stupid but please forgive me, I thought mine didn't! So the filter works even if the nozzle that puts out water is completely under?

I was given the whole set up so I'm not sure of what model it is but its a fluval internal.

If the black tape is on the outside then it should be fine. It depends on the filter. My filter pumps water behind the filter pad so the water just falls through it into the tank. You could upload a picture if you don't know the brand is.

Thanks for your help guys, I will upload a pic from my phone tomorrow if I can my internet is down atm:(
