Viejitas or Rams?

What is ur favourite dwarf cichlid?

I am now torn between Apistogramma Viejita and Mikrogeophagus Ramirez.

i like the viejita cos i dont see it often in aquarium stores. Ive never seen it at my LFS in australia. The moment i saw them here i was like wow, i gotta get me a pair of those. Viejitas are not bad in coloration i suppose. but jus a bit plain on the body.

But Rams on the other hand are MUCH more colorful. They stay smaller too. I have a pair that i would not give up for the world. But they are TOO common. I would like to keep rarer dwarfs. Still i cant get myself to let go of my rams.

Provided you have a ideal tank size and environment for each kind,
Which one would you choose?

ok I'm not and don't pretend to be anywhere near an expert on chiclids but...

arn't there are several "rams" (blue, red, gold), or are they just colour morphs?

IMHO the Apistogramma Viejita is more pretty than a blue ram but not as pretty as the gold ram.

and Bolivian Ram(Mikrogeophagus altispinosa)
The Bolvian Ram is so called because it comes from Bolivia, South America but is also called the Ruby Red Ram(it has red colouring on the edges of its fins and because LPS's screwed up
IMO the Bolivian "Ram" shouldn't even be called a Ram since it doesn't even have the word "ram" in it. it is only called a ram because it has the Mikrogeophagus part to it and so does the Blue/Gold so they call it a Ram. It is sometimes called the Bolivian Butterfly

My vote is for the Viejita II. I too like more unusual fish, and not only is the V2 prettier IMO, they have so much more personality. All the Rams (either species) I've ever had just seemed to swim, eat and poop...kinda like bettas! (oops, did I say that out loud?? ) JK, betta folks. (You have the best forum, remember?) <MsDad hastily retreats into lurk mode in case betta folks think he's serious>
