So Ive had my new Vieja nearly a week, so far as I can tell, he hasnt eaten anything. When I put food in, he just ignores it, swims around it, has a sniff and swims away. Ive tried hikari gold, doromin, prima, veggie crips, peas, lettuce, cucmber, bloodworm/shrimp pellets, frozen bloodworm, mussel, cockle and today even fresh prawns, which no fish ever turns down, but nothing, he just isnt interested. I know he could go a few weeks without food, but Ive not had a fish go for a week without eating before.

He has no sunken belly, no bloating, no signs of illness, havent seen him poo though, swims around with plenty of energy so far, just wondering if anyone who has had a vieja knows of anything else I can try?

you not think live food would gain some interest from him? other than that i would probably try live shrimp if you can get hold of any. if you could just find something to get his interest enough for him to take a bite you can worry a bit less.
its stressful, my ray still won't eat! very annoying

live food isnt easy to come buy round here, for some reason LFS dont sell it, cept bloodworm, that doesnt look particularly alive if you get my drift  They definately dont do shrimp cheap enough for feeding, its more the expensive kind you wanna keep, he just seems to watch everyone else eat, but doesnt take a bite, frustrating, I guess if he gets really hungry he will eat something. The caresheet he came with, listed all the foods he was being fed on, the hikari gold, prima etc, so at some point he must have eaten those. Maybe he just needs more time to settle in.

Yeah could get them from a reptile place, but nothing on this planet, will get me to open the lid on the box!!! Might dig up some worms when the ground isnt so hard and feed those.

haha i hate crickets too, i have to get them for the arowana and use these big plastic tweezers!
yeah he might just be taking his time settling in. tell me about it live food isn't easy to get here, just bloodworm and daphnia, and i know what you meen when you say it doesn't look particularly lively!
and again i couldn't find any live 'feeder' type shrimp anywhere near here, i got some out of the sea and the fish loved them, but that all depends if theres a bit of sea near you!
hope he eats soon!!

Dave

Probably just stress Minxy, i had this with some green terrors before...but others fine.

Could also be internal parasites :S

Have you tried 'Hikari Gold Sinking pellets'?

No Dave, no see within a few hundred miles

Ive used/use both sinking hikari and floating hikari, I prefer using the sinking as none of my fish are particularly surface feeding for some reason, they prefer to wait for it to drop to them, lazy boogers :fun:

Tried bloodworms, both frozen and pellets, frozen shrimp, mussel, cockle, krill.....
