Videos For Newbies

I've had a reveloution --- which i'm willing to create and maintain...

It would be a pinned topic for the newbie's section basically having a video directory of all the basic functions and maintanence needed on a tank... It's hard to try and explain a water change, planting, 'putting to sleep' etc. - so I thought if we create a directory (which i'll run) full of videos of this type of thing then a newbie can actually see the task rather than being told how to do it?

Good Idea? - I'll do the water change video and create the topic and maintain it for when people add new videos?

i think it is a good idea if you have the equipment to do it, as it can be hard explaining things to people, go for it

have you considered where these videos are going to be hosted... I'll be a lot of bandwidth if they go up here - and bandwidth costs money

SAMXX - The dog's still plodding on! Getting worse so I don't think he'll see past summer (but then we've been saying that for ages!)

smithrc - It would only be about 4 or 5 videos. I was thinking -- Water Change, Adding New Fish, Setting up a New Tank, Ethunanasia of a Fish and 1 other video that I haven't thought of yet! They could be pinned in the Newbie's section.

4 or 5 files of what size? thats the question - every time they are pulled off of the site they will use the site bandwidth... you may(or may not) have noticed but all of the images i post are actually hosted on my own webspace and then linked back here.

You could do the same with the videos and then have them linked in the pinned topics

Good idea. The first water change can be quite daunting for some people (me!). If you could see how things are done it would help a lot. And the other topics too. Don't know about the technicalities but hope it works out.

Smithrc is on the money with this. Bandwidth essentially is very expensive, a site Im involved with has a podcast and we have to give it its own seperate hosting, and this is just for a single mp3. Hosting 4 or 5 videos would be pretty expensive IMO.

I could easily put 4 or 5 videos in the Tropical Chit Chat section (and have before) with no problems.. we'll let William deciede on if we can do it.

This is potentially an extremely good idea - but it all depends on whether William is going to allow it or not.

However, I think I remember reading somewhere that his brother hosts the site - maybe William can strike a deal?

Of course I may be wrong and on completely the wrong track...wouldn't be the first time!
