Hi! We got a new black moore goldfish (Speedie) this past Mon evening (16th). She was put in a 10-gal quarantine tank. That tank had been in use for 6 months so it was an established tank. All levels were checked with an API test kit and everything looked good. FYI-The tank contains an Internal Whisper Filter rated for 30-gal, an airstone and a new live plant that was purchased when she was. (Moved the former black moore goldfish to a 30-gallon on Sun 15th.) She's only 3-4" long from head to end of tail. At the store, we noticed that her fins were down. The guy at the pet store said that "they do that". Swimmey (first goldfish) never does that.
Tuesday morning (17th), I noticed that Speedie was just sitting on the bottom of the tank. I did the unthinkable and tapped on the glass bc I thought she was dead. She moved, okay good -- not dead. That evening, we noticed some white spots on her. I feared it was Ich.
I had some leftover Furan-2 (expires April 2009) from when Swimmey (first goldfish) had a fungus infection and read that it can treat Ich so I immediately started treatment and followed the directions. Last night was her third treatment and she was still covered in white spots. I slowly increased the temperature of the tank from 70-F to 73-F. Overnight, the tank temperature increased to 75-F due to the heat in the apartment. This morning, she had a few less white spots and I increased the temperature of the tank to 77-F. I plan to increase to 80-F when I return this evening. Tonight is supposed to be the final night of the Furan-2 treatment but, clearly she needs more! Not sure what to do. Should I continue with the Furan-2 or get something else specific for Ich? Of course, my son is already attached so I'm hoping to keep her alive! Any suggestions on the best meds and course of action would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance!

p.s. -- yes, i know keeping a goldfish in a 10-gallon tank long term is a bad idea. Swimmey (the first fish) was a surprise for my son, presented in a "goldfish" bowl. i was not thrilled with the surprise. they really should change the name of those bowls! I quickly learned that those bowls were no good as Swimmey got the fungus infection bc of his poor water conditions in the bowl. within 2 days, i had a 2-gallon tank with a filteration system and the following week, got the 10-gallon tank as a temporary home. he was really small (about 3") and i needed time and money to get the right supplies, plus the new tank needed to be established before he moved over. i changed the water often and he made it!
