i am going away for the whole day on sunday and am worried that she will give birth whilst i am away. Do you think i should put her in the breeding tank?

I with Sasha, if it a net BIG NO NO, your not only loss your fry your loos your female.

If she in a tank (like a 4/5g) then she'll be fine.

there known as birthing trap/nets. Well in this house there known as DEATH traps/nets.

I have had a lot of luck with them provided you don't put the female in there too early.

and you shouldn't overreact on the birth trap=death trap thing, they aren't that bad, if you get the bigger kind, and don't leave them in there for too long, that's fine...

If it's a breeding tank, your swordtail will be fine. Make sure you have a lot of hiding spots for the fry, so the mother wouldn't eat them.

Breeding TRAP (net) is in the title thingy... TANK is in the actual post.

I have to agree about the net though - don't put her in one of those. Personaly I hate those things. They realy are unecessary and you can't say you won't put her in there for a long time cause you'll be gone and I consider a whole day too long in a trap. It may seem like over-reacting but if you've had a fish die in one of those you'll understand.

sorry i meant a breeding trap where the fry fall down into the other compartment.Anyway i am back now and i didnt put her in the breeding tank because i didnt want to leave her in there too long and stress her out. Luckily she didnt give birth whilst I was away!!
