I'm bidding on a tank at the moment, a Juwel Rekord 96 (96lt, 81*46*31cm) and apparently the tank comes with the following occupants -

1 large gourami
2 red tail sharks
4 black widows
2 neon tetras
1 bumblebee cat
2 plattys
1 large clown loach
1 blue jap fighter (I'm assuming this is a siamese fighting fish)
6 zebras (I'm assuming not the plecs. if they are, I'll be amazed)
1 minnow (unspecified)

I think this is very overstocked, probably just with the clown loach and red tail sharks...but I'm a beginner so would like a second opinion. Also, what would you suggest I get rid of? I'm in favour of offloading the clown loach and red tail sharks, not that keen on them myself.

having just looked up the bumblebee cat, that would explain why there are only two neons...oh dear.

Aren't minnow coldwater fish? But anyway, yes i agree. I think its a bit overstocked.

How many gals is that(sorry im terible for converting litres into gals)?
Just looking at it yes i would say it does sound overstocked, and you don't have the best mix of fish in there at all which is what i would be most concerned about.

Tetras need to be in large shoals(8+)
clown loachs like to in groups of 3+
Red tailed sharks from what i've heard don't get along with each other.
Bumble bee cats can also be very teritorial(correct me if im wrong).
If its a male siamese fighter/betta, i would be very worried for his safety.
Platys need to be in larger groups of 2 with so many other fish around, although adding any fish in this case would only be adding to the problem.

I've now confirmed that it is a siamese fighter, and the seller thinks that they are Zebra Danios.

there could be potential free fish in the Stoke area, UK :)

I ashume the Minnows are White Cloud Mountain Minnows, can be kept in cool water, mine have always been happyer in tropical set up though, if it is, needs to be in groups of at least 5. If it is not, I beleave need cold water set up, and get rather big.

RTS I been told are happier in odd numbers. But get to about 6 inchs so I would get rid of one instead of getting another.

Neons you need another 3 at least, but proberly get bullyed by the fast zippy danio's, and or eaten by the gourami, when it is bigger.

Bumble bee cats, I shore can get very aggressive.

Plattie, if just one male and one female you need more females, but I would'nt add anything more at the moment.

Clown loach's need to be in groups of 4 and in at least a 55g.

Betta, I would never put a betta in with danio's or a gourami, unless I wanted his tail ripped to streads

and the

Danio's will proberly harrass, most of the fish in the tank, though my 5 Lepards seem happy anothe to beat each other up. But I would keep an eye.

I hope thats everything, sorry not to be more positive. :-( :(

96 litres is 21 UK gallons or 25 US gallons. (give or take)

If those 'zebras' are hypancistus zebra then that tank will be well worth the dosh!

More likely they're otos.

If you get the tank, you'll have to get rid of the sharks and loach because they aren't the right fish for a 20-25 gallon. Then, if you want to keep small fish, get rid of the bumblebee cat (actualy it depends on which of the species of bumblebee it is but most likely it'll be the more common one which does snack on lots of tetras...) You'll also want to identify the gourami as it might be a snakeskin or kisser in which case you'll want to get rid of that too. Then you'd want to choose between the betta and widows as widows are knoen for being nippy. I'd keep the betta and get rid of the widows cause that'll be less of a bioload and you would probably want to reduce stocking as much as possible. You would also need to decide between the betta and gourami as these fish don't get along. Even if you keep the gourami though, gouramies can still get nipped by widows. Then it's just a matter of increasing the neon school to 6, fixing the platy ratio if it's wrong (if there's one male/one female you'll want another female) and adding at least 4 more minnows (provided they are white clouds).
