I have a largwe juvvy angelfish who has some heavy duty fin rot. I have been treating with pimafix for 8 days, to no avail. He has'nt eaten for about 7-8 days. He sits literally in a corner all day. He cant get up. His fins are rotting away. I beleive he has bacterial infections which I do not know how to aid with.

I've had his guy for almost a year and don't wanna lose him.

Please and thank you.

I just copy-pasted that from my signature...

0 ammonia, 0 nitrite gh(5-8?) kh(5-8?).

He is normal besides the rotting fins. There is no white materiel on the fins, just the rays going bare. He is starting to thin out due to his inbility to eat.

I made an edit as you posted.

Water changes once weely, 25%. Missed last week(rarely happens-will do tomorrow). Latest fish was about 5 weeks ago. Elephant noses(peaceful).

Can you move him to the 29g? I would suggest starting him on Trisulfa. Normally I would start with the Maracyn/Maracyn2, but he may need something stronger since he has been treated for 8 days already with no improvement.

My 29 has had no water change for 3 months but no soure of ammonia beside algae. Would I have to cycle it or would one fish be fine long enough for treament to finish?

Where can you find Trisulfa?

If you have a mature tank with gravel you can take some of the gravel and pile it on a sponge filter or put it in a box filter. This will provide enough bio filtration in a 29 with one angel. I would also do 50% water changes daily. If you want to have a nice conversation about fish give National Fish Pharmaceuticals a call. They are very knowledgable with fish meds, and have loads of other aquatic ideas.

I know that petsmart carries trisulfa because I bought some from there. You should be able to use mature media from your other tank and do the water changes as Tolak said. Just make sure to check the dosing directions to make sure you don't have to compensate for the water changes. I don't think that you do, but double check just to be sure.
