One of my fish died and it's missing it's eyeballs  . I suspect the others ate it. Assuming they did, is there any danger to them?

since yesterday night i presume.

gouramis

gourami died

it wasn't looking so good, i found it in the bottom of tank without eyes

I've had fish eat the eyes of dead fish before. It would probably depend on what the fish died of and whether it was contagious or not. Although, none of mine died after eating the eyes.

I see it all the time at work and the wierdest thing is that goldfish do it the most and usually the fish will continue its life without eyes. 8)

This happened to me just recently. Two of my cories had their eyes pecked out, I think by some Zebra Loach I had in the tank. One of the blind fish died and the other still lives. Its quite distressing to see. I'm not sure how well a top feeder or middle feeder will cope with no eyes, but catfish seem to do alright as they smell their way to a meal anyway and have poor eyesight to begin with.

When a fish dies in my tank it nearly always has one or both of it's eyes missing.

It's a sad fact but the fish will eat the dead one. I reckon my clown loaches are the culprits. I think a clown loach even had one of my cory's eyes when they were in the same tank, he is in another tank now with other corys and he is fine. But as I understand it your fish was already dead when it happened?

If so, it happens. Please don't worry too much. I am sure your fish was dead before it happend. If it was when the fish was alive then you must consider what fish would have caused this. I don't see a gourami other than a kissing being able to do it to a live fish.

Sorry if I am being disgusting and sorry for your loss.
