Hi all,
I have an aggressive female albino koi swordtail.
Please see the video attached. She is the only swordtail in the tank and aggressive towards the rest of the fish. I have 2 platies, 4 albino corycats and a pleco. The swordtail has been nipping all day every day at all of them. The pleco of course takes no notice, thinking it is a mosquito bite  , but I am really starting to worry about the rest.

I have a guppy tank too, but would moving her with the fancy guppies make any difference? Or she will start nipping at the guppies too? Any ideas? I was so desperate, that I threatened her with the fish net a few times and even took her out in a bowl for 10 min

P.S.
These marimo balls I got from ebay never recovered... :grr:

Sorry, but I can't seem to be able to upload the video here...

Here is a link to the video I uploaded in youtube:

I've noticed she gets like that when I drop the wafers for the cories. She does not leave them alone until all of it is gone. Yesterday I fed the platies and the swordtail at the same time as the cories. The swordtail ate most of the brine shrimp, and then quickly went to annoy the cories for the rest of the night. Then she eventually got bored with it and was fine before the lights were turned off.
This is the first time I have a swordtail, so just wondering are they normally like that, or I just have a bad luck? I was thinking to get a male swordtail as the platies are also females, but I am inclining to get a male platy instead?
A few of the guppies also have to join the same tank in a while, so maybe I should return the swordtail to the shop? Not sure if they'll take her.

Sword tails are known to be more aggressive, if you want a peaceful community go with platties - but it happens even in platties if the m/f ratio is off. You need 2-3 females to one male.

I added 3 guppies to the tank, a male and two females. The fourth guppy is in labour in another tank and gave birth to some deformed looking babies with yolk sac attached? I already have four 3 weeks old fry from the same female and nine 3 days old from the other female all in a small 7g tank, so I don't really care too much, but I don't mind a couple of survivors as the mummy is very pretty, so is the previous batch (3 blondes and 1 grey with perfectly formed bodies and tails).Seems like the mama guppy got stressed of being lonely or what? So far the five fry I saved, all have yolk sacs attached. One already died and was burried.
The swordtail has been behaving a lot better since last night after the new addition:). She either has someone else to bully or she got company she likes:)and she's being watched. She definately does not like the platies, but she is so not attacking the guppies(they are bigger than her). And the platies are loving their new company, following the guppies around.

I must be really lucky with my community. I have 5 female platys and a male swordtail. I have never seen aggression in any of the fish. They chace each other from time to time, but that is it. Never seen them nipping or anything

No luck with mine, she spent the last 3 hours poking at the corydoras.... The good part is that they don't seem to take too much notice, besides the occasional jump.

I'm sorry to hear about your trouble. I don't know what advice to give. I have albino cories in whith my platys and swords with no trouble.

Hi again,
Thanks for your kind reply.
Actually, the swordtail has stopped harassing the corydoras, so I am keeping her for now :)
The premature baby guppies actually survived and the yolk sacs disappeared. I found a few more stuck in the gravel afterwards(stuck not hiding as they really could not swim when born).Nearly all of them could not swim for the first 2-3 days, but are happy and growing now. My black/leopard tail female gave birth last night and the babies are as big as the 1 week premature ones from my blonde female!! The other batch of 9 fry that are 10 (born by the neon blue guppy mamma) are growing extremely fast. They are double the size of the premature ones, although the age difference is two and a half days!!
My 4 weeks baby fry are starting to get colour now and the males already have gonopodiums.
You can see videos of the mothers and the fry below:

Guppy fry(the bigger blonde ones are the 4 weeks old ones;the grey ones at the front are 10 days old. In the background you can see the prematures 1 week old and 1 day old which are the same size :) )

Here is a link with an update on the fry, the older ones that are 4 and 1/2 weeks old are getting colour very rapidly. For those that have no patience to read the above, there are 4 guppies from the same batch and younger fry aged 2 weeks, 11 days, 5 days. Three of the older ones in the previous video were born with gold body and the mom is tequila sunrise guppy, so they seem to follow. The very coloured one was always the hungriest. The fourth one from the same batch is the only grey, but I can't seem to catch her on video as she thinks she is a corycat, she behaves like a bottom fish(not sickly in anyway). Her tail is yellowish now, so I presume it will turn red.
The younger ones are getting tiny bit of colour too, but nothing major yet

P.S
I had a major accident with my male guppy. See my other thread..

I think I tend to forget the topic of the thread with so many fish troubles :fun:
I nearly forgot how the guppy fry used to look when they were young :)

The swordail has long stopped harrasing any fish and is peacefully living at the moment with the guppies, cories, platies and some female guppy fry. I think she just didn't like the platies and cories as much in the beginning and then got happier with the guppy addition. But it was scary how aggressive she was.
She definately was never pregnant as I thought at some stage.
