I went to our LFS and they had a huge display of bettas again, I was looking through them and one golden bodied betta caught my eye because he had dark almost black vertical stripes on him. his fins were long so I know it had to be a male, I was just curious because I heard only females get stripes when they are ready to breed. Is this a different colored betta, or do they get this way if they are sick?

DAMN!
the stripes mean their ready to breed!
NOOOO!!!!!
i've got a little hoochie ready to breed and my male has fungus?????!!!!!!!!!
i better go out and get her a REAL man!!!!!!!!!!!
i betta hurry!!!!!!!!!
:fun:
wish me luck!

oh sorry to take your forum,
fight the power! :shifty:

hehehe simpsons

I've seen males with stripes bitter, it's nothing to worry about and he actually sounds very attractive.

PK~ just because your female has stripes it doesn't mean she HAS to breed, betta fry are a big handful and it's not something you should get in to unprepared.

i am prepared,
i have everything i need and have researched betta breeding
i've had males for a while but i was waiting for a healthy female (which i found a beautiful purple crowntail)
i thought i found the perfect breeding partner, but he has contracted fungus (don't worry he was being quarantiened, so he was separate than the female)

Hey all,
Sorry to burst in like this but those stripes on that male dont mean he is ready to breed,When a male Betta is ready to breed he will be full colored and vibrant the prettiest thing you have ever seen. The stripes mean he is distressed and greatly for that matter( I would be to if I had to live in a cup) No big deal if you want him get him, he will get over it,Condition him for two or three weeks and he will be goldin.
Sounds like he is a beuty..

Also I have to agree with wuvmybetta breeding bettas is something you must be prepaired for Very Hard at first but it does get easy after a while.
