Vermiculite: Is It Safe In Aquaria?

I have a spare bag of vermiculite in my garage, so i was wondering is it safe to use in a fish tank...

i would have imagined it would float

it does float lol , i had some in a tank i got given that was used for snakes and i filled the tank up with water to see if it was water tight and it flaoted

ive heard you leave it in a bag of water for a couple days until it soaks up the water..

oh well try that i can see the logic in that lol its worth a try i think
