Seems I have a Velvet outbreak in my community tank.... Noticed some flashing yesterday but thought nothing of it as they seem to do it occasionally

then this morning i saw the rusty/dusty covering on my barbs and noted some very small white marks (too small to be ick i think) on the tails of my polkadot loaches. My RTS seems lethargic too, just sitting on a leaf mostly.

I've dumped the carbon from the filter, done a small waterchange to gravelhoover (did a 40% change a few days back) and tested the water, came back ok (ammonia 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate 10). PH and temp unchanged.

I've raised the temp 1degree Celcius, lifted my filter outlet up to break the surface a bit more and get some more air in, knocked the lights off and given half a dose of protozin (Cant use a full dose due to some of the fish I have in there).

Seems to be affecting all my tiger barbs, difficult to see on the albino's so i assume they are affected, my RTS and 2 loaches. Ropefish look ok but they are hard to see and i've have no chance of identifying it on the cory's as they are camoflauged lol so i am assuming a tankwide breakout.

Anything else I can be doing?

Also, oddly, i've had a bit of an algae build up come from nowhere in the last 2 days... related maybe?

ok i've done a week of protozin as directed (day 1,2,3 and 6) with half doses due to the sensitive fishies but its not looking much better. How should i proceed?

Another round of meds it can take two rounds, velvet far worse than whitespot to get rid of.
Good luck.

Thanks wilder

How long should I wait before recommencing meds? I'm guessing a fairly heft water change before re-starting would be a good idea too?

Do a water change and start again.
Good luck.

Thanks Wilder!

Fingers crossed :)

Ps - I've lost a hatchet, assume its to velvet or something :(

R.I.P. Velvet can kill fast once is affects the gills.
