Velvet?

Ok well the taps have already bin turned off so its just a tank of water and a filter has been added so there is a current like before. Thanks for the advice.
Will the sick tiger barbs be able to be saved?

Yeah, slowly increase the temp to 82, and treat the whole tank. Be careful of what meds you use as some can harm plants.

As for the water stats thing. Here is the basic version. Fish produce ammonia, which is highly toxic. In the filter a set of bacteria develops to turn the ammonia to nitrIte. NitrIte is also toxic, and another set of bacteria turn nitrIte into nitrAte. NitrAte is non-toxic for fish, and as your dad said, nitrAte is used by plants. Ask your dad if he has a test kit for ammonia and nitrIte, those levels should be at zero or there is a problem in the tank, and they are major causes of stress.

I kno that lol :) I've been lectured about it all for ages(the cycling buisness). I think he puts something that contains nitrate (coz nitrite is harmful) into the tanks, for the plants, but I don't know what it is.
Btw, I know it's nothing to do with fish but he not my dad...STEP-dad, sorry. :-(
Anyway, we don't usually use filters because it's piped up so all the tanks use the same water supply thats been treated and de-chlorinated etc. When this type of thing comes up, hardly ever, my step-dad turns a few taps and adds a filter. The water has gone slightly blue because of the stuff and the other fish are in a 20Gal quarantine. He picked out 5-6 I think, which he believes are most affected.

Alright about the temperature raising thing but won't it affect the plec? She's just beautiful!
