Hiding behind the aqautic plants.
Ooooooh no.
I noticed it first on my VT, looks like someone sprinkled itsy bitsy kernels of sand on his body and fins. I changed his water completely, moved him into a 1 gallon medicated with some bettafix, as I could not figure out what it was, and I did not want to falsely treat it.
Then it started appearing on my male HM, who is currently splitting a tank with a female VT. She has not shown signs, but he has that 'sand' look on his head and has stopped moving. He just lays on the bottom. I don't know what to do with the female, as I only have a 1/4 gallon that remains unused, and I still don't know if it is velvet. Their tank did get a 100% water change aswell. I rinsed the plant, scrubbed the heater, scrubbed the tank, but I just don't know what to treat it with.
I am not too sure if another VT is showing it, but he has been the same lethargic way for the past couple weeks.
The only thing they share is the knife for feeding them frozen BS.
Help.

Sounds like ick. Raise the temperature to about 82 to 84 degrees. This will make the life cycle shorter. Keep using the bettafix. Velvet is golden and ick is white spots.

Oh no Monica!
i hope you can help your bunch!
its awfull when this happens...

Deffo sounds like ick/white spot to me i would get meds for it, interpet do a fairly good one that i have used before and apparently waterlife do a really good treatment for it too. it usually pretty easy to clear up :good:

When you said it looked like sand I was thinking it was white. Ich is white...velvet is more of a golden color. To help break the life cycle of velvet the least amount of light possible. The picture does look like velvet. Raising the temperature is usually always a good idea when the fish is sick.

I know exactly what you've been going through and my recommendation would be using Mardel Coppersafe. When I first bought Blanca, she looked like this.

As you can see, her fins were tightly clamped that the end of her body formed an arrow. She had loss of color and these golden speckles all over her body. She was diagnosed with velvet and when nothing else worked, I used the coppersafe. Well I'm happy to say, today she looks much better and is looking like this now.

She still has a little bit of velvet left on her but she has greatly improved.

Is ick not white?
These are tiny golden speckles.
The VT male is "itching" as is my VT female who splits a tank. The HM who she shares it with looks next to dead, though he is considerably aged, so he does not have the same immune system.

I thought that same thing lol usualy ick is described in that way. As Joycould said raising the temp usually helps as well as frequent water changes. I would also still get a treatment from the LFS for it, both the makes i mentioned before do one.

Do you have any pictures or can you get any of your bettas that are sick so we can have a look see

I will try to get some meds tomorrow from my lfs, couldn't go today, as I had an open house.
I turned off the lights around them, and I raised the temp. The HM is looking pretty bad.
Any other tips till then? Maybe cover the tank with a towel?
