Hey guys.
Just thought I'd share this with you, it surprises me still.
I used to have lots of different plants in my tanks. It is a 20 gallon with a standard 15 watt fluorescent tube on it. First all the cryptocoryne died, then the java moss (I know!) - it just faded away. The java fern carried on clinging onto life. All the while (this was over about six months) the vallisneria (the long reedy stuff) inflitrated its way through the tank. It finally succeeded in extinguishing the java fern, which withered away and died finally last month, along with a hardy anubias plant. Now there is nothing except vallisneria and a great big moss ball thing left, and even that is going.
The vallisneria grows at about a rate of a centimeter a day, it covers the tank in long green fronds and it smothers all other plants.
I quite like the look of such a reedy tank, but I'm sure some people might be irritated by that. Anybody else had that kind of experience?
