Hi.

I have alot of this Vallis variety in my tank and i love they way they look. i prefer the thin leaves of this plant over other vals.

Anyways, why is it that the plant, even tho is growing very well, with shoots everywhere, turns brown on the very tip of the leaf. After it turns brown it starts to soften.

My temp is at 27C, i use tetra initial sticks in my substrate and further fertilise the plants with tetra crypto tabs.i have around 2.5 Watts per gallon of lighting over the tank. what is wrong?

When you say soften, do you mean the leaves die? The tips of my val plants get a red tinge to them but I am told that its because of the light (I have high light)...they don't seem to be going soft and they certainly aren't dying (though I have SOOOO much val it wouldn't be a catastrophe if some were to die  )

um..

they sorta die yes, but not the whole leaf, jus the tips....they start going brown and starts going soft. I then cut them off where they start to soften and leave the green parts.

They are definately not turning red. jus dead brown..and soft.

wot could be causing this? could this be because my light is too close to the water surface? its actually approx 1.5 cm from the water surface... -_-

That used to happen to my vallis but after I started dosing nitrogen, potassium and trace (Flourish) there's been none of it. It's possibly a nutrient deficiency. Although I haven't used plant tabs, it's likely that some other more direct nutrient dosage is required.

great, thanks nospherith

but how do you dose nitrogen, potassiuim and trace?

Does Flourish have all of these things essential in it?

maybe i shud get to buying some flourish. I jus thought vallis were root feeders so i never really bothere to dose liquid ferts.
