I bought some thin val last week.....a few bits have fallen off it but besides that it looks pretty good.

One of the bunches has sent out a skinny thing from the bottom of the plant. I am assuming this is a runner but I was under the impressions that runners grew up through the gravel at any point in the tank.

Is it a runner?

Yes Vals do send out runners. So i guess it is one.

yeah that sounds like a runner alright. i guess they go both above and underground because the red tiger lotus sent runners underground and the vallis over. they could be a reddish tint.

It is definitely another plant.....this morning it was a green thing poking out from the bottom of the plant....now the green thing had buried itself in the gravel and there is a mini-val plant there...like 1/2 inch tall

yep spot on. thats a new vallis plant.

if you want to move it wait for the roots to grow a couple of cm then cut the thin runner either end (without damaging either main plant)

you can then re plant the new bit wherever you like
