My Vallis, which was very sickly when I first got it a few months ago, is now donig so well I really think it needs a trim. The leaves are around 3' long and trailing accross the surface of the water, which looks good but is blocking a fair amount of light getting to the plants lower down in the tank.

If I just snip the tips off with a pair of scissors will the ends of the leaves grow back of turn all briwn at the ends?

I'm keen to clear some space on the top of the tank as my amazon frogbit seems to double over night and the Vallis is growing almost as quickly. The amazon frogbit is also flourishing in small pond we have in the back garden (I donated a load of it during a big clean out), although I think the first frost will probably be it's end.

Yeah just trimming the top of the leaves should be alright. i do that with one of my plants...tall grassy one...also seems to grow overnight (as you can see i cant remember what its called) and ive had that for ever lol

Wow, my Vallis barely seems like it grows. When I first got it 2 months ago it was pretty sickly so i trimmed off all the brown and dying parts. It's now perking up but it grows MAYBE, if I'm lucky, a 1/2" a week. I know my co2 isn't perfect and neither is my dosing but I think it should be growing a LITTLE faster than that.

trim it at an angel as opposed to a straight cut
and you should have no problems with browining tips.

SLightly different question here. Can you propogate vallis? I know with most plants, you just stick them in the substrate and they root (anacharis for one). I have one spring of vallis that they gave me one day at the LFS. They were cleaning their plant holding tank and he had a bag of literally roots that I asked for. I didn't have a clue what anyof it was since there were no leaves, basically just roots. I ended up with a single vallis (about 65 leaves which have now reached the top of my 75 gallon) and a java fern (doing well also). Nothing materialized from the other roots.
