Hi,

I have a bare bottom tank and was wondering how Vallis grows in a pot?

My tank is 2.5ft tall so I want a species that grows nice and tall.

Just looking for advice if this is ok, and if it is...what to put in the pot?

It's a darkish catfish tank so it doesn't have great lighting either, especially with it being a deep tank.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Abyss, here at my aquarium club several breeders use plants in pots for their fry tanks to provide cover for the fry and for easy cleaning.

What they do is they take margarine or yoghurt tubs, make holes on the side (so water can get in easier) and fill it up with substrate. Inside the substrate they then plant low light plants such as swords, crypts and vallis. As these are root feeders, I'd suggest that you either put a nutrient rich substrate or use root tablets to make these plants grow.
