I have vallis growing in my 30gal planted tank. I have 3.2wpg and it is growing REALLY well....like the main plant is always sending out runners and the runners have runners coming off them etc.

One thing I have noticed is that where the val flattens out across the top of the water, it is quite red.....almost a burgundy colour. All the stems/leaves at the top are exhibiting this colour. Is this normal for a tank with high light? Does anyone else notice this?

TIA

Under high light, many plants show red/pink colouration. It is actually the lack of green chlorophyll that allows the weaker red/pink flavinoid pigments to show.

Yea, my vallis as well as my rotala indica does the same thing... :)

Thanks for the replies.

When I set up my planted tank I bought a whole lot of red plants, to have some contrasting colour with the usual green. Some of the red ones of died off and the greef ones are red at the top with green further down the stem. Kinda kills two birds with the one stone.

I love my planted tank :D
