Well, I am going to look at a 35 gallon tank tonight. It is very closeby to the house and will be setup in my son’s room. Now, after talking with her, I believe it might have a cichlid in it now. She said it is a yellow fish with red on the fins and I believe she said black dots. She said she got it from petsmart and it is a bit aggressive. Ideas? She also has a 45 gallon but it doesn’t have water in it. I told the hubbie that there is no way of knowing if it is watertight then – from the get-go. She has 30 days to move out of state so is looking to sell everything in a hurry.

The plans for this tank are to move the mollys and tetras in there for my son, so I can put some other fish into the 55 gallon without over-crowding. That still leaves the 10 gallon for a quarantine tank after the fry are out.

Looking online - maybe albino paradise:

I know there is no way of telling without a picture, I just want to do a bit of research before going over there and looking. She said I could take the fish also, but she already said it was aggressive so that won't work with the mollys and tetras. So I am curious more than anything.

It is possibly an albino paradise fish but in honesty i'v never seen one that looks remotely like that pic,

Do you not think that you may be able to id it if you saw it? Petsmart usually only sell common species so it shouldn't be too hard to id,
if not how far away is it? a quick photo and upload will quickly let us id the fish for you.

That is what I was thinking in regards to petsmart. Hmmm, let me give her a call back and see if she can send a picture.

Okay - here is an update. I am thinking these are just huge platys - though I don't know why they would be aggressive to other fish. She said no matter what they put in there, they are bullies. I did not bring them home btw. My hubbie is picking up the tank tonight. We are bringing home the pleco - couldn't get too good of pics of him though. They have had him about 8 months and he is still small. They can't remember what kind he is.

Ideas?

They are yellow with almost see through bellies, red fins and red cheeks with a black spot on the back of them. They are pretty big too.

Also, there tails aren't straight across but go more into a V which you can see a little bit in the first picture.

The pleco is a brown with dark brown spots - the pics are bad, but the best I could do:

The pictures aren't coming through too great on my comp but the black dot on the side of the fish suggests that they could be rosy barbs and the pleco looks like a common

You are right on the money - they are rosey barbs - three females. I already sent her some information on them.

I think so too on the pleco, but wouldn't it have grown a bit since they've had him? Mine is growing like a weed.

If the pleco has only been fed leftover flakes that haven't been touched by the barbs then it is possible, but unless it was around 1cm when she brought it i'd say she hasn't had it that long.

That's a good point. Thank you. I guess I just always assume everyone is doing what I do. I will try to get some good pictures of his by this weekend.
