Vacuum Gravel

Is it ok to use a gravel vac with "eco gravel"? I have a 55 gall planted fresh tank, and the eco plant gravel has some sand in it....will a gravel vac suck this substrate out? I'm ready to do a water change and wanted to vac at same time if good for the tank.

I hold the gravel vac above the substrate, high enough not to suck up the sand or in your case the “eco gravelâ€￾, you can move the gravel vac swiftly above the substrate and this should stir up any fish waste or muck then just vacuum that up. Where the substrate is heavily planted I just give the plants a bit of a shake to release anything trapped among the plants.
