So my vacation has been planned for 9 days... Thing is... Im not sure what to do about my bettas and my goldfish... I heard feeder stones were good but they raised the levels of toxins in the tanks and left for a long time they could be dangerous to the fish.. i have two males seperate.. 6 females in a sorority tank and 6 goldfish... what would you guys recommend....

i know i probably posted this 4 sumwhere but i couldnt remember so i decided to just ask again

You could feed them a little extra, maybe a pellet or two a day, a week or couple days before you leave and they should be ok for the duration. They'll be plenty hungry when you get back, but they'll live. Because you have to remember, fish don't need nearly as much food as mammals because they don't burn it to produce body heat. You might also be wise to lower the tank temp down to 72ish so that their metabolism slows and will burn even less energy. This is what I've done for my vacations, but I've never been away as long as 9 days, 4 at the most, but it should still work as this is a better option than polluting the water with feeding blocks if your tank isn't filtered. :good:

Hmm... I don't know what to suggest. Maybe put a load of live food in before you go and hopefully enough of it will survive each day for them to get a half decent meal if that makes sense.

You can also buy these machine-type-things that release a portion of food each day from your LFS.

Good idea... if you fill a cup (maybe a little betta cup, if you have one) with gravel and squirt live black worms down into the gravel, it works as a sort of time release feeder.

Well for the filtered tanks the food blocks should be ok, as the filter will clean out all the excess that comes of the block. The black worms in the gravel is a good idea too, but only if you can get your hands on 'em. As for the food releasing mechanism, I don't think they make them small enough for betta tanks. So if you can't find the black worms and no one will be there to care for them, I think what I said earlier might be the only option. Unless you take the one betta home, I always took my guy home over breaks, but I have my own car, it would be kind of hard if you have to ride a bus. But worst comes to worst, buy a 1 gallon plastic container with a tight lid and take him home in that and keep him in it over break, just be sure to put air holes in the lid. :good:
