How do peeps clean the sand/gravel from the area under the bigger juwel tanks' filters? I can't reach with my gravel vac as it would need to bend round corners to get at it.:*) :fun:

I just poke the tube without the big bit on the end under. This is quite easy in to 400 as i can see under it and only suck up a bit of sand. It is a pain to do in the 180 as there is less room and i suck up loads of sand. Just be careful if you have fish that like to hide under there.

To be honest - I don't really clean there. I have gravel stuffed in under it so that the fish don't get stuck or hide there so that I can never see and check on them.
Once every 4 months or so I'll scrape all the gravel away underneath and give it a good clean. But that's it. Been doing it that way for years

Thanks folks - its a Vision 260 I've got the problem with as its quite a big space, but still awkward to get at. Its like a cave for the fish. Guess I'll leave it and if it gets really mucky, manually clean it out. BTW my 180 sits nearly at the bottom of my tank, so no problems there.

Cheers :)

Never cleaned it. I have stuffed it with sand so fry cannot end up in the small column of water in the corner of the tank.

I have a heavily planted tank and I have Vallis all around the filter and they frequently send out runners into this space and sometimes you see the odd baby plant grow between the glass and the filter.

So I guess the plants are eating up any excess nutrients that are in there :)

Apols for hiijacking, but... Vision 260 was one I was thinking of getting... is it a good tank? Any probs with it?
And also, how wide is it - not at the middle, but the sides, which must be less as it's a bow front... I can't find info on it anywhere, only total width.

I like the Vision 260 - its a deep tank and I keep angels in it, so its ideal for them. The width at the sides is approx. 12 inches or so and obviously widens out in the middle - you get great views with it.

Only drawback I have is that I am a small female with a short reach and its a nightmare reaching the bottom of the tank to do plant maintenance etc. I stand on a small stepladder - my friend says I should have a life buoy on the wall at the side, cos she thinks I'll fall in one day. You learn how to cope though - I think it's a great tank.

Thank you! Sounds perfect, the side width was a big factor in deciding if it would fit where I wanted it or not - sounds like it will do easily.
Am a tall female with arms of gorilla-like length (but not as hairy!) so reaching the bottom should be OK.....
