Hi all,

I have had my V2 400 set up for a couple of months, but it keeps randomly overflowing. It will work fine for a while then suddenly overflow. It normally runs for about 3 days before I need to empty it.

I last emptied it yesterdey, but today I came in and it was overflowing, it has managed to overflow about 10l from my tank!! So my carpet is soaked. This is the 3rd time this has happened, and I am so annoyed I just want to get rid of a skimmer all togeather!!

Any ideas why this is happening, I do also have the clean the foam in the bubble stop every few days as this seems to cause a problem with it overflowing inside the bubble stop, so this might be related? What foam do u use to replace in the bubble stop?

Thanks, Michael

Yeah, the problem is probably in the bubblestop. If the bubblestop gets clogged, the pump builds up backpressure and overflows. If you were really handy you could prevent this, but its tough to do on an HOB skimmer. Gotta keep that foam bubblestop clean, or lower the amount of air in the skimmer so that it does not discharge bubbles and then remove the foam bubblestop...

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

However I dont think it is the bubble stop as it has just overflowed again. I am really fed up with it. As it is also lovely and quiet i've been thinking to just get rid of it, what do you think?

Could I do without a skimmer? I have 50kg of LR and an external with LR rubble and Purigen and Phosigaurd, is this enough to stop things going wrong without the skimmer?

Michael

As long as you aren't planning on stocking sensetive corals or inverts you should be fine. Nothing you have in your stocking list currently would be at risk.
