This may not be the place for this but I know more people will probably see it here. There are always questions about UV Sterilizers and whether they are worth the money or not. I fought green water in my 75 gallon tank for several weeks. I did daily 30% water changes only to see no improvement. I couldn't see the back of the tank at all. I finally broke down and bought a Coralife Turbo Twist 3X 9W Sterilizer. I installed it on a Sunday afternoon and had crystal clear water in a little over 24 hours.
When I came back from a weeks vacation this past Sunday, I found my 29 gallon with the same problem. I put the same unit on the 29 gallon and decided to take pictures daily and document the progress. It took 3 days this time but I think you will see that it definitely is worth the money.
This is what the tank looked like when we got home:
This is after a water change of about 8 gallons (about 30%):
This is Monday evening - 24 hours (sorry for the light glare on this one):
This is Tuesday - 48 hours:
And this is today - 72 hours:
A pretty noticeable difference don't you think. As I said, I think these are definitely worth the money and this is probably one of the least expensive on the market. You will need either a cannister filter or a power head to run if from. I am just running mine off a cheap power head. Water goes into the power head, through the sterilizer and back into the tank. I just didn't want to cut the lines on my Fluval filters to set it up permanently.
As I said, I first ran it on my 75 gallon. I only ran it for 7 days until I had to do another water change. Since I had it set up temporarily I took it off for the WC and never put it back. That was 4 or 5 weeks ago and the water has stayed crystal clear. I will probably do the same thing on this tank once it is completely clear. It still has a little ways to go but is almost there. I will post more pictures the rest of this week as it continues to clear up.
