I was in a local pet shop and saw they had a UV sterilizer in a tropical setup and the water was crystal clear.

So i bought a Fish r Fun one with powerhead

anyone else use one in there tropical setup ??

what other benefits are there other than clear water ?? i was told by one LFS that it reduces the chances of whitespot ??

I have only used them in newly cycled tanks to clear green water but they work great for that. There really shouldn't be any reason that you would need one on a permanent basis but it won't hurt to run it all the time. I've been away from the forum for a while but I believe CFC (one of the mods if you aren't familiar) runs them all the time on some of his setups or at least one of the mods used to.

As mentioned they will also kill any bacteria that is free floating in the water but it is quite uncommon for bacteria to be present in the water.

Does anyone know if UV sterilisers kill planaria & nematode worms??

To the best of my understanding, it will kill anything free floating in the water that passes through it. I'm not certain it will kill those though.
