I have recently posted a question regarding couldy water, I was advised to go for a UV steriliser, but will this kill off all of the algae? dont I want at least a bit for my common plec to feed on?

Hi, I don't know how experienced you are so apologies if you already know this! Common Plecos need food other than algae. I have one and they can be fed algae wafers, catfish pellets, cucumber, peas and a prawn once a week. They also like romaine lettuce but I haven't a clue what that is! My Pleco is a good algae eater and he enjoys his other food too. HTH. :) I don't have any visible algae in my tank but he hoovers around anyway. He also has a large piece of mopani wood.

thanks for your help, I am a beginner but I know a little!! I do feed him cucumber and blood worm along with catfish pellets, Just wondering wheteher taking the algae away he would miss it?

I can't see any algae in my tank. I have the Common Pleco and a Golden Apple Snail. There might still be some even though you can't see it. My tank has some natural daylight and when it is sunny although the tank is far enough from the window not to get too warm the rays do reach so I hope some algae does grow. I think as long as they get a good diet they are ok. Plus I am not sure if Commons need wood or not but mine has some just in case. He hides behind it even if he doesn't munch on it. :)
