I have a new tank less than a month 10 gallons. 1 molly 3 tiger barbs 2 platys. Both of the platys have tiny white spots all over them. I raise the water temp to 84 degrees did a 50% water change and added 2 tablespoos of aquarium salt tonight. What I am wondering is should I be doing water changes every day? Everything I have read said you should treat for 2 weeks. So does that mean doing water changes evey day and adding salt back in? Any help appreciated thanks :)

first, the molly is not going to fair well with the barbs, not sure of the platys either. Might need to research some on the fish to avoid stressing them which often causes ich in the first place. Next, you should be fine to just change the water every few days. if you do, just change 10-25% every other day but you can go a week to see if the salt will work or not. If you see symptoms increasing, you might need to look at some other types of medications to treat it. When changing, be sure to only replace enough salt to match that you took out, dont add a full aquarium dosing with each water change if that makes scense. Also read the pinned article in the top of this section to learn more about the life cycle of ich and treating. Hope this helps.

salt does not treat ich unless you do a salt dip. if you are adding salt to the aquarium for te purpose of treating ich, only add a little. the salt is to help the gills because ich meds tend to deplete the dissolved oxygen.
