Hi, can I use pond water to do my water changes as my tap water is quite hard and I am trying to breed rams. My pond water is alot softer and has a lower ph I currently have 4 goldfish and there babies living in it. So can I use 60% pond water and 40% warmer tap water to promote breeding.

Thanks Jakester

P.S the pond is filtered ( don't know if this helps)

Not certain but the whole point of a water change is removing polluted water and adding unpolluted stuff, so im not sure that adding pond water would help your tank. Assuming you keep golfish in the pond they are massive waste producers. Personally i wouldnt do it, id rather use tap water and just add bogwood to lowerr the PH

I definitely wouldn't sugges it as you don't know what type parasites and other bad things are in the pond water. And as mentioned, water changes are to clean the water and what you would be adding back would most likely be much dirtier and higher in nitrate than what you were removing. To get around the problems with you tap water, try RO water or a mixture of tap/RO.
