Using Peat As Substrate

can i use peat as a substrate? i was thinking of putting a layer underneath the gravel to help lower my ph

Yes, what level is your pH? As long as your fish you are wanting to keep or keeping can live then i wouldn't bother, most fish will adapt to different pH's anyway
