Hi there,

Having only ever had to use meds once when my fish contracted whitespot a few months ago (and killed 8 fish), i'm wondering WHEN should you treat when you notice something may be wrong.

Example - one of my clown loaches appears to be fine, however under his gills is becoming a bit red. I lost a cory last week from the same thing so i am unsure or not if it is related (advised ny someone on here it may have been septicaemia). I have a collection of meds here, is it worth me running a course of antibacterial treatment now incase (it says on the box that it is harmless)? Or should you only do this only when you KNOW something is wrong?

Jonno.

You may want to concider a test kit before medication, sounds like an ammonia/nitrite problem.

ammonia + nitrite are both zero, and have been for months (since fishless cycle).

fyi the clowns red gill has been like it for a while, way before the cory died. perhaps i am just worrying about that one - but my actual question is more to do with when you should use meds :)
