Using A Heater Too Big For The Tank?

But then, doesnt the water cool down slightly going through the external filter giving a similar effect?

In a way yes, but a bigger heater would stay hotter for longer and through a smaller body of water it wouldnt take so long to heat the water up, a 50-100 watt would cool down alot quicker and by the time the water is flowing back through the heater itself it would have cooled down sufficiently enough not to make a difference.

hope that made sense lol

Yeah i think i got it...

I may just end up with the rena smart heater with the external attachment... Its just so bulky though...

Not really had much experience with external heaters, but i have herd some superb reviews on the hydors, just pitty they dont do smaller ones , smart heaters apparently break quite easy well from some reviews ive read, no actual expereince so couldnt confirm this, but i guess like anythink if it's going to be faulty, it's going to be faulty you cant really do much about it, you could have the same problem with a internal!!

well anyways m8 hope you dont have any problems with whichever you chose ;)

Well the thermostat didnt work... tested it using a bucket and hot water.

Any ideas? Really dont want a heater cluttering up my tank

Heat mat under the tank so warming the base of the tank controlled by a temp probe in the water, I know this is done in fish houses when breeding certain strains unsure whether it would be effective without being bare bottom tank. You could build a compartment on the hose intake for the filter and wrap a heat mat around that again controlled by temp probe or have a standard internal heater within the compartment but that would impede flow quite a lot.

Thoughts while reading that were.... whhhaaatt... :hyper:

Seems a lot of work, im still searching, cant find any 100w heaters available in the UK/from people that will ship to the UK
