I have a gravel Vac and a Canister,
would it be a good idea to use the cannister filter and attach a gravel vac onto it to make it clean the gravel?

would this be beneficial to the filter??

sorry if it makes no sense.

Not a good idea, unless you can use a "prefilter" of some sort, as the filter proper isnt designed to process that much solids !

Thanks for letting me know,
Might make some sponge in a bucket the main reason is to save the water,
and my catfish makes alot of mess...

actually on a second thought the gravel vac im using has a guard to stop most dirt and allows mostly find parts, so pooh etc.. will remain in the vac tube...

It's actually fine depending on the filter. Magnum filters come with a gravel vaccum. But others may not be designed for it like the other person said. I find it much easier to use a sink attachment gravel vac because you need to remove and replace water anyways. Using it on a canister doesn't remove water from the tank and replace it.

i know I need to replace water,
But Im like to clean out plant debri and fish waste very often,
I cant stand seeing it.
and I'm under the suspicion that you replace water TO often,

Nope, you can't possibly replace water too often. Most people who breed discus replace 75 percent of the tanks water twice a day. You can't possibly replace TOO much water, unless your really clumsy about it.

75% twice a day....poor mother earth :rip:

I have a magnum and would never hook up that gravel vac to my filter. It gets dirty way to quick as it is without me hooking up the vac. I use a python on all my tanks but one(its too far away), its the only way to go.
