thanks for the replies. I appreciate and respect everyones opinions but I will set up a tank with two clip on desk lamps. Not to go against advice give but also for the fact I'd like to leave the tank open so some of the plants can grow emergent. I keep all posted once I get everything set up. Hopefully I don't run into to many problems. QUESTION? Are their any cons to using eco-complete? Was told it would start to compact after about a year

You could always consider an arc pod

its a clip on lamp for plants!

thanks Max saw that set up before. But since I would like some the plants to grow emergent that those lights would be to close to the top. Figure the type of desk lamps I've looked like come with the goose neck and will be about a good 6 to 7 inches from the water so that some of the plants can grow emergent without being so close to the lights and drying out

Very nice! How big is that bowfront tank? Are you using 3 desk lamps and 2 others?

the tank is 92 gallons corner tank with a bow front it has proven to be tuff to layout but i think im getting there. i use three architectural lights with simple QUARTZ HALOGEN bulbs , as far as i know they don't come in any variance in k rating they are one spectrum only and it's on the yellow side of the spectrum but due to the water fall i needed small fixtures with optimum output and halogen offered what i was looking for i'd prefer metal halide 8500k but the fixtures would block my open top and waterfall
