Can any one help, over the past 2 days I've lost 2 Molly's when I've removed them from the tank both have no tails left just stubbs. I've now got a male guppy struggling to swim, on closer inspection it's tail is missing all execpt the "veins" if thats the right term.

Does anyone know what the problem is? my water stats are as follows

ammonia - 0.00
Nitrite - 0.00
Nitrate - 10 - 20

Thanks

What other fish have you got in there?

I've had it a few times where I have had a guppy that was old and weak and before he could actually die himself the tetras where attacking them and eating their fins.

I've got

3 guppy (2 female, 1 male)
6 molly
3 platy
12 neon tetras
1 pleco
1 bristlenose
3 zebra danios

I've never seen any of my fish attacking each other before

What size tank is it?

It's really not uncommon for fish to eat the fins off a dead or dying fish. Unless you are there to witness the fish die, you may not catch the others in cannibalistic act. Fin rot is usually associated with water quality problems, which considering your test results it doesn't appear that you would have. Are there any other signs or symptoms you can spot?

It's a 180l. I was given the 2 molly and a couple of neons and a pleco from a friend who was getting rid of his tank, could this be the culprit, if so how do I rectify the problem? I also have a shrimp in my tank, can you recommend a med to treat the tank

Thank

i've got 2 dalmation molly's and they are really soft so I don't think it would be them. A plec would only go for another fish if it was on the bottom n not moving but i've seen my tetras fin nipping weak fish. I tend to put weaker fish in a breeder so they can live out their final day in peace. but thats my own experience.
